Both countries have some environmental damage, just like everywhere else in the world. The difference is the fact that Denmark is not really responsible for most of the damage in their country, unlike South Africa who is the main cause of their own damage. The Danes have made sure that lately they have not added to their environmental damage, but instead have tried to fix it and have put a ton of money into the cause. In South Africa they keep causing problems and hurting their land. This is partly due to the fact that they have so much poverty in their country, that they do not have the money to actually do anything about the environmental damage. Both countries are struggling with the issue of clean water. Neither area has a big enough source of fresh water and that source will only decrease when the sea level rises.

Climate Change

Denmark and South Africa are actually quite close in the amount of climate change that they experience. Neither area sees any major swings in weather, especially not enough to cause any major changes in the landscape. Most of their climate change is either coming from other areas causing damage or from things that have happened in the past, but nothing natural.

Hostile Neighbors

Right at the moment both countries are on good terms with their neighbors. Denmark has no real reason to be upset and cause friction between their neighbors. South Africa however has a more rocky relationship between their neighbors that happens to be in an alright state at the moment. South Africa is the richest country in Sub-Saharan Africa so they are holding up the rest of the countries, making relationships friendly. The friendliness however could easily go away since the neighboring countries are not very stable.

Friendly Trade Partners

Both Denmark and South Africa are trading with most of the world and being very successful. They both have many products that the rest of the world wants. South Africa's mining is on a very high demand right now since it is used in many of the electronics that are in very high demand right now. South Africa however has had to rebuild their trade relations after being kicked out of the World Trade Organization for how they treated their citizens.

Society's Response to its Environmental Problems

This category is the one in which the countries differ the most. Denmark has done pretty close to everything they can to stop their, and the worlds, environmental problems. They have put tons of money and effort into being environmentally friendly and to get the rest of the world on board. South Africa however has done very little to help stop their environmental problems. They are just too poor a country to put any money into cleaning it up. They need to put all their resources into the health and safety of their citizens. Also they are still considered a developing county and so do not have as many regulations put on them.
